Transportation & Land Use Planner

The City of Cape Girardeau Planning Services Division is seeking a candidate for the full time

position of Transportation and Land Use Planner. This position primarily supports the

Southeast Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (SEMPO’s) 3-C transportation planning

process.

Specific duties include providing staff support to the SEMPO Board of Directors, Technical

Planning Committee (TPC), and other committees in conducting the metropolitan

transportation planning process; coordinating all SEMPO activities, including meetings,

planning documents, and administration; Preparing mode-specific and other specialized plans

pertaining to transportation, including data collection as necessary; Administering

transportation planning grant programs and other agreements, including the preparation and

submission of reports and other information as required.

Successful applicant must have a thorough understanding of the metropolitan transportation

planning process, including the role of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), State

Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal

Transit Administration (FTA), and other agencies as well as the various planning documents.

The successful applicant must also possess a Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning, civil

engineering, public administration or a related field, or equivalent training and industry

experience, plus a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience. Must possess a valid

Missouri driver’s license. Preference may be given to those with AICP or PTP Certification.

Starting salary DOQ. Benefit package includes health, dental, and life insurance provided,
