SEMPO Board Approves Project List for Transportation Tax

sempo-cape-girardeau-boardOn April 23, 2014, the SEMPO Board of Directors approved a prioritized list of transportation projects to be funded by the proposed statewide sales tax.  The list has been submitted to the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Southeast District Office for the next step in the process.  On May 22, 2014, the Southeast District will meet with SEMPO and four other regional planning partners to begin reviewing each organization’s project list and compiling a single list for the region.  The regional list will then be submitted to the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Central Office, where the Chief Engineer will work with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission to develop the final statewide list for the November ballot.

The proposed 1% sales tax has a 10-year sunset and is estimated to generate over $7 billion to be used for improvements for all modes of transportation.
